About Children’s Village:

Children’s Village “SOS Kinderdorf” is located in Issyk-Kul Oblast, in Cholponata. Cholponata is the centre of tourist life in summer time; it is on the beach of the pearl of Kyrgyzstan “Issyk-Kul” lake. Children speak Kyrgyz language and study at secondary schools in the village. The children have many opportunities to participate in different kinds of activities at the orphanage such as dressmaking class, drawing and dancing classes, and sport clubs, computer club. The “SOS Kinderdorf” has good experience working with international volunteers.


Project goals:

Organize children’s leisure time through conducting games, sport competitions, dance classes, and English language lessons.
Participate in daily orphanage activities and spend leisure time with the children.
Volunteers will be involved into trainings for children development (learning poems, tongue-twisters, drawing, development and sport games);
Conduction of excursions, trips, competitions for children;
Assistance in product shopping, visits for marginal families;
Beach cleaning and many other activities devoted to the development and improvement of local community life by activisation of children.
Work: The main purpose of the camp is:
Orphan and marginal groups’ children integration with world youth with the aim of traditional, cultural exchange and enlarge of scope via organizing study, work and leisure time activities.

Weekend Excursion: On the weekend volunteers will have an opportunity to visit Karakol town and see its sightseeing. Volunteers will have opportunity to swim in the lake “Issyk-Kul” and visit historical sights Saymaluu Tash, Rukh Ordo. Meeting point:

Location: The camp will be held in Cholponata town is 120 km away from regional centre Karakol and 254 km away from capital city Bishkek.

Language: English, there will be a camp-leader who will interpret and help in all ways of communication.

Accommodation:The cottage in the territory of Children’s Village in Cholponata “SOS Kinderdorf”. Shower will be available everyday.

Food: Cooking will be done by volunteers in the kitchen with all necessary stuff for cooking.

Group: Mixed, composed of approximately 5+ international, 2 United States Peace Corps volunteers and 2 local volunteers. Volunteers will manage working hours and free time activities with the camp leaders. Decisions will be made based on discussions with the whole group. Local residents who wish to be involved will be welcome.

Insurance:Volunteers should come with their own health and accident insurance.

Bring: A more detailed packing list will be sent after applying, a basic list includes: back-pack, sleeping bag, raingear, warm clothes, comfortable shoes for hiking, a swimsuit, sunscreen, insect repellent, a torch, your national recipes, music, songs, games, energy and a good mood!

Participation fee: 180 Euro should be paid upon arrival in cash. The participation fee covers accommodation, food, transportation, recreation and organizational costs.
