Preserve Karakol

 

The project "Let's preserve the cultural heritage ofKarakol" was initiated by the YVO "Leadership" together with the Issyk-Kul regional state archive and media partner of the radio station "Volna Issyk-Kul" with the support of Internews.

Project goal:

Contribute to the preservation of the architectural heritage of the Karakol through the development of an interactive online map from the historic sites of the city and conducting thematic media campaigns to attract the attention of local residents as well as promote the development of civic activism.

The first activities of the project:

This year, on 1 July, Karakol will celebrate its 148th birthday since its founding. Thefounder of the city,Colonel Alexander Kaulbars wrote in his "Notes on the organization of Karakol '- "In 1869 on 1 July, streets, squares and a courtyard were laid, were also laid down the lower rims of the defensive barracks, in front of the main facade of the courtyard seating area for the future of the Holy Orthodox church. We invite you to come to the photo exhibition and acquaint yourself with the history of the city in the framework of the project "Let's preserve the cultural heritage of Karakol" initiated by the YVO "Leadership" together with the Issyk-Kul regional state archive and media partner of the radio station "Volna Issyk-Kul" with the support of Internews, on July 1 2017 at 10:00 on the square of the city of Karakol.

We alsoinvite you to participate in the photo exhibition. Bringing family photos from the 19th and early 20th century of life in Karakol would be a valuable addition to the exhibition, showing relatives against the backdrop of the urban space, the home, and the everyday life of Karakol during this period.

In order to popularize the history of the creation of Karakol among adolescents and young people, an encounter game will be held on 1 July at 10:30 am at the square of Karakol.
